if you’ve known me for a while on ig, you’ve probably noticed my sporadic roundups of twinzos — ppl who dress alike, whether intentionally or not — as strangers, lovers, or another form of relation in between.

sometimes ppl ask me like, how do you catch this so often, and I’m like you just have to look around, it’s not that hard. I mean, charlotte, she texts me like 100 twinzo pics a week, often from europe.

it’s a worldwide phenomenon.

what does it mean that this happens all the time, everywhere, all at once. I’m like often so wrapped up in the idea of dressing for unique self-expression…meanwhile, I’m like, so sorry for your pursuit of individuality bc everyone be out here dressing the same anyway.

even when the outfits don’t exactly match, the essence does. I often see this between a pair of besties. sometimes romantic partners. but mostly bffs.

I know they are besties just by looking at them. I can see that they are obsessed with each other, they wanna embody the other, they have unlocked mind-meld status. who is influencing whom? I mean, who the fuck cares. reaching this level of friendship is beautiful.

when you can walk the streets of nyc or whatever, looking like a mirror image of your fave pal, and both of you are like lol yea we be like that.

today I read this piece in the nyt about what teens do to find moments of joy in their lives. one said this:

tbh I’m like overwhelmed by the number of these photos on my phone. I don’t take pics of anything special, just twinzos. very few pics of my own friends, no meaningful captures of nice memories, no preservation of beautiful scenery.

but hardly do I think of myself as living in the moment. I’m on my dumbass phone more than anyone I know. I’m working on it, and I think I’m getting better. me actively trying to stay off my phone is likely the only reason why I think I spot these twins everywhere.

I just start walking and looking.
